What mattered was the grades. Instead of being a person, I became a set of scores and numbers.

Dear policymakers and educators,

I've realized how to make more change

Than a 7.9 earthquake.

I can simply use my voice

To destroy

the injustice I see.

I've learned to tear down walls

Make empires falls

With simple lines of poetry.

I promise you

No statistic

No poverty

Will ever be enough to silence me

Especially When I see that those who are in poverty aren't truly free

Because of a discriminating line

Separating

The children we are educating.

Because

They are experiencing an inequity

That raises one group to success

And leaves another to rest in the desolate place they’re from.

It's an unfair Social hierarchy

But like I said I've learned to tear down walls make empires fall

With simple lines of poetry.

And I will raise my voice

Until the choice

Is made

To end the discrepancy between race and graduation

Race and incarceration

Social class and education.
